Zebra Imaging was founded in 1996 by graduates of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Media Laboratory. The mission of the company was established at that time: to develop and provide the best technologies and products for three-dimensional visual communications. With initial and continuing support from Ford Motor Company and other investors, the company has succeeded in producing the world’s largest and most unique holographic images for applications in a variety of markets.

Zebra Imaging has developed unique full-color digital holographic recording technology, and a number of products based on this technology, over the last ten years. To date, Zebra is the only company that offers an autostereoscopic, full-parallax (viewing of the image over and under and side to side), full-color display for three-dimensional digital imagery. Zebra’s technique produces images that are scalable to any size, and yet portable, since they are recorded on very thin modular tiles. Unlike single-view and binocular 3-D displays, Zebra holographic images enable intuitive image-based collaboration, since they require no special eyewear or head trackers, and display all perspectives simultaneously for independent access by any number of viewers. The wide angle of view of Zebra holographic images can accommodate up to 100 degrees of look-around, or it can be subdivided into channels to show short animations or peel-away and overlay views.

The company is composed of some of the foremost experts in 3-D imaging, and systems design, development and engineering, and has sought to augment its capabilities by forming relationships with key precision machine manufacturers. Zebra has developed significant intellectual property in its core field, having been granted 23 patents, with 12 others pending in the US and 8 foreign pending.

Zebra Imaging is focused on visualization applications with its current technologies, with primary markets in defense and intelligence, industrial design and engineering, and oil and gas exploration and production.
